First off, thanks so much for posting. I read the 3? reports but unless I missed something, they look pretty much the same to me. People actually TRAVEL to Brooklyn to hear this tripe?
A key ingredient for the family is having a family worship evening. A major factor for the bookstudy change was the importance of family study.
So, after 40+ years in this cult, I see a key ingredient is a family worship evening. This was not important until now? Just what is a 'family worship evening'? The way I see it, this is nothing more than semantics, just another name for the dreaded 'family study' (that used to be around 1 hour, now it is to be prolonged to an entire 'evening') The more they try to make like they are lessening the burden, the more rules and loads they pile up on the r&f. But with the boredom most are experiencing, any little deviation from the age-old routine is a welcome change.
And then offhand, they have the gall to say this was "a" major factor for the bookstudy change. More bulls*?t to deflect attention from the 'other' unnamed and REAL factors.
Ok, so I may be a bit of a conspiratorial thinker, but I really am starting to believe that the guys at the helm are fully aware that this publishing house/cult dressed up as a religion is on its last legs. Why else do they keep prosounding that the anointed are NOTHING SPECIAL? They are staring into their own abyss and consequently sending out enough signals to any thinking moron in the audience that the gig is up. A lot of us have already gotten it, more and more are waking up as the day draws near, and so when the Watchtower ship finally does go down (my gut tells me in the next 8 years), the mental devastation that will ensue will be a little less than if they just plain came out and said "You know what folks?, move along, there's nothing more to see here."
End of Rant

Some GEMS from the 2001 ANNUAL MEETING
by tresdecu indid a little time travel...i googled 'wt annual meeting' and this popped up from the freeminds site from 2001.... right after the 9/11 attacks the gb was probably salavating at all the scare tactics they could use for the big a!.
in 2001 i was a semi-enthusiastic ms, awaiting my impending eldership (now i am just a 'do as little as possible' ms waiting to step down.).
reading these notes now...i wonder what i would have thought of this back in 01 ??.

"Interesting" points? Hardly.
The other great descriptive word used by Witlesses is 'timely'. My problem is that this stuff has been reheated and reserved ad nauseum since at least the '70's that I can remember and has it ever been 'timely'?
Thanks for the laugh.
Oh, and edited to add: GEMS?!!!!! ha ha ha

11/15/08 WT: Sick? Too damn bad - get yer @$$ back to the KH, slacker!
by sir82 inthere's been a few topics on the "search out the inactive ones" articles in this wt, but i haven't seen anything on the 3rd study article, titled "maintain a scriptural view of healthcare".. i was unaware that the bible had anything to say at all about healthcare, but oh how wrong i was!.
unfortunately, no scanner - perhpas one of the other intrepid posters could scan and post it.. but here are a few choice quotes:.
paragraph 6: "...we know it is wise to avoid letting our health become an obsession or a constant concern.".

I think they pretty well HAVE to write articles like this one, because the only ones actually IN the seats are the elderly, now with the baby boomer generation approaching their mid-fifties, early sixties. So this article pretty well applies to 75% of attendees. Expect more and more of this drivel in the coming years....

Tell Us Dumb Things You've Heard Elders & Bethelites Say
by minimus inthere are a lot of dumb organization men.
gb losch seems to be the top dog for dumbness.. in the local halls i've seen and heard many dumb elders open their mouths.. one elder had a fondness for bible prophecy and watchtower chronology.
he always speculated on what the "watchtower really means" about a statement in print.

I kid you not, I've had elders tell me that they can 'smell' Armageddon coming. This just recently.
Another one told me he could practically give it to me in writing. Practically?

Blondie, thanks for the context.
garybuss - very interesting...good question...something to think about
Could it be these Jehovah's Witnesses are worse than lawyers when it comes to semantics? Curiouser and curiouser! (as Alice in Wonderland used to say) - nothing is as it seems....

garybuss:
"Jehovah's Witnesses have never believed that the Kingdom of God will be on earth."
(The Watchtower, April 1, 1985, p.30)Is this for real?? I will have to look this up tonight to verify, unless anyone can post a scan. If true, THIS IS DYNAMITE. Still can't believe it, but nothing surprises me now. Thanks for pointing that out...
